Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s) of Third, Fourth, and Fifth Grade Students,

This spring, Georgia will be administering The Georgia Milestones Milestones Assessment System (GMAS).  GMAS is a comprehensive summative assessment program for grades 3 –8 and select courses 9 – 12. Georgia Milestones will measure how well students have mastered content and skills outlined in the state-adopted standards in language arts, mathematics, science and social studies. This assessment system is designed to provide students with information regarding their achievement and readiness for their next level of learning whether it be the next grade, next course or college/career. Students in grades 3 – 8 will complete the End of Grade (EOG) assessment in English/language art, math, science and social studies.

Georgia Milestones include:

·         A writing component (in response to passages read by students) at every grade level and course within the language arts assessment;

·         Open-ended (constructed response) items in language arts and mathematics;

·         Norm-referenced items in all content areas and courses to provide Georgia with national comparisons;

·         Multiple-choice items in all content areas and courses;

Georgia Milestones and the use of calculators:

·         Grades 3 – 5: No calculators allowed

What can you do to help your student?
