Striving to Be Our Best Under Every Situation

BUES

Welcome to Burnett Elementary School –Home of the tiger cubs where we are always striving to be “Our Best Under Every Situation!” If you are new or returning, we warmly welcome you and your family to our school.

My name is Kacia Thompson and I am entering my fourth year as Principal at Burnett Elementary. In addition, I am excited to introduce our new Assistant Principal, Ms. Marketa George. She is coming from Beulah Elementary where she was the Assistant Principal for three years. As our Assistant Principal, it is her goal to work diligently to carry on the expectations of providing a nurturing and safe environment for all children. Ms. George is very excited to be a part of a school that fosters and embraces diversity, perseverance, and community.

As we move into a new school year, we will continue to support the mission and vision of the school to ensure positive and productive outcomes for all children. Over the years, we have worked tirelessly to provide a safe environment for your children. We understand that we cannot do this alone. The level of commitment from you is needed and expected for we understand the role that you play in your child’s life. It is our goal to work with you so that we can ensure that our school a place where students are excited to come, learn, and play. Our primary focus this school year will be on building relationships with you, your child, and the BUES community as we focus on student achievement.

Our focus this year will be on reading and math. These are the areas that are impacting our students overall ability to achieve at higher rates. It is important that you read daily with your child, read to your child, expose your child to basic math facts, word problems, and reinforce what our teachers are teaching on a regular basis. It does make a difference!

Throughout the summer, students had the opportunity to come to summer school for additional instruction in reading and math. Summer school proved to be a great success for our students!

Be sure to make a pledge this year to be more involved, more active, and more supportive of your child’s education. As stated before, We Need You! Here are a few reminders as you prepare for the school year:
